Moldindconbank warning message: A new fraud method based on voice cloning

Technology makes our lives easier, but it can also be used for fraudulent purposes. With the development of artificial intelligence, new methods are emerging through which scammers try to deceive people and gain their trust. Moldindconbank draws customers’ attention to one such method, which involves imitating a person’s voice and, in some cases, spoofing the phone number from which the call is made.
Although such cases have not been officially identified so far in the Republic of Moldova, the method is already being used in some European countries. To be prepared, we recommend learning how this scheme works and what you can do to protect your data and your money.
What is important to know
Scammers can use artificial intelligence to imitate a person’s voice. Sometimes, short audio recordings found on the internet or in apps such as WhatsApp may be enough for this.
For example, you may receive a call in which you hear the voice of someone close to you—a child, a parent, or a friend—telling you they have a problem and urgently need money. Moreover, the number displayed on your phone may be spoofed, so that the call appears to come from the very person you know.
Therefore, do not rely only on the voice you hear or the number shown on the screen.
Having doubts? Check!
If you receive an unexpected call in which someone asks you for money, personal data, or information about your accounts, stop and verify.
End the call and call that person back using the number you already have saved in your phone. If it is a real situation, you will be able to confirm it quickly.
Do not share over the phone:
codes received by SMS;
passwords or login details;
full card details;
other confidential information about your accounts.
Moldindconbank will never ask you by phone for passwords, authorization codes, or login details for banking services.
If you have already shared data or made a transfer
If you have shared personal data, provided an SMS code, opened a suspicious link, or made a transfer that you consider suspicious, contact us as soon as possible at 022 71 71 71. Prompt action can help protect your accounts and your money. In the event of a fraud attempt, you can also report it to the Police by calling 112.
Safety starts with a simple step: stop, verify, and only then, act.
