Built on a secure, consent-based approach, Agent Pay transactions will remain authenticated, transparent and within full consumer control

Mastercard today announced the completion of a pilot that delivered the first agentic transactions in Moldova, marking a new step towards trusted agentic commerce. The pilot was conducted with Moldindconbank through Mastercard Agent Pay.

Agentic commerce – where AI-powered agents act on behalf of consumers to shop, manage subscriptions and complete everyday tasks – is poised to transform the way people in Moldova shop online. By enabling fully recognized and authenticated agentic transactions, Mastercard’s agentic framework brings AI agents into the payment flow as visible, governed participants – ensuring that every transaction is secure, transparent, and trusted.

“Moldova’s digital transformation is accelerating, with consumers and businesses embracing innovative technologies,” said Irina Untila, Vice President, Country Manager at Mastercard in Moldova. “We are proud to launch the first agentic transactions in Moldova together with Moldindconbank, bringing AI innovation to the country. This important step forward reflects the momentum of the country’s evolving digital ecosystem and highlights the potential of AI-powered commerce to deliver more seamless and secure payment experiences.”

The milestone confirms the banks’ technical and operational readiness to support emerging AI-driven transaction models. Mastercard jointly with Moldindconbank will continue exploring new use cases and opportunities for scaling AI-powered commerce, while maintaining strong controls, resilience and regulatory alignment.

“Innovation drives progress, and we are proud to be one of the first banks in Moldova to support AI-powered commerce, embracing new solutions that create opportunities and deliver value to our customers,” said Dmytro Krepak, Deputy Chairman of the Managing Board of Moldindconbank.

Designed to support agentic commerce at scale, Mastercard Agent Pay is built on a comprehensive ‘Know-Your-Agent’ trust framework where an AI agent can transact after it is identified, registered, showcases verified intent, and is authenticated. AI agents will secure payments through agentic tokens that ensure every transaction – including recurring payments – initiated by an agent operates within the permissions and limits defined by the consumer, providing full visibility into which agent acted on their behalf and where the purchase was made.

Mastercard is building the future of agentic commerce with a universal data exchange protocol enabling seamless, scalable personalization, combined with its industry-leading biometric authentication via Payment Passkeys, empowering users with consent and control.
