Chairman of Moldindconbank: Some customers give to fraudsters the card details with no money. It is a mistake
Moldindconbank will continue the campaign of financial fraud prevention until this phenomenon is present in Moldovan society. On March 13, Alexander Picker, Chairman of the Managing Board of Moldindconbank, said about this during the “A perfect evening” broadcast on PRO TV.
According to him, the bank initially planned to focus exclusively on its customers, but once it understood the scale of the problem, it implemented a social campaign aimed at every citizen in the country.
“Unfortunately, fraudsters have become very creative. They even turn some customers into ‘partners’. There are cases when fraudsters promise people huge profits from so-called investments, but on the condition that when transferring the money they do not inform the bank about the real purpose, but say that it will be used to buy construction materials. Fortunately, we were able to stop such transactions after discussions with customers. Our campaign is successful because we have used clear messages in our communications, using simple language,” Alexander Picker said.
The Chairman of Moldindconbank also noted the involvement of various organizations that supported the bank’s campaign: “We are very happy that other institutions understood how important this is and supported us, including the police”.
Alexander Picker stressed that the social initiative aims to prevent fraud at both young and old people, who are more often at risk of becoming victims of financial fraud.
“I was also called. They said I have an approved credit. This is the first mistake, because we should not answer calls from unknown numbers. I asked from which branch I am being contacted and was told that it does not matter because the credit is already approved and I just need to provide the card details. This is where the second mistake comes in, because I do not have to give anyone my card details. There was one case, when a customer decided to trick the fraudster and gave his card details with no money. A wrong decision because the fraudsters using this card data gained access to the customer’s accounts and withdrew money from the deposit. Thirdly, you should not open links from unknown sources. If you receive a dubious call, the first thing to do is to say you will come back later and contact your bank to check if it is a genuine call. In the case of Moldindconbank, you can call 022 71 71 71, our employees are available 24 hours a day. If you think you have given personal information to fraudsters, then call your bank and the police immediately – the sooner the better, because transactions can still be blocked and money returned,” the Chairman explained.
Towards the end, Alexander Picker remarked that people should always be careful and vigilant, because “if it sounds too good to be true then it is not”.
