iVedere – the story of a family business that brought modern ophthalmic surgery to Ungheni

In a field where professionalism is intertwined with passion and perseverance, the iVedere ophthalmology clinic in Ungheni has managed, in less than two years of activity, to become a recognized institution for patients throughout the country. The clinic’s founder and administrator, Doina Bobescu, says that the business was born out of a desire to bring quality medical and surgical services to an area where patients previously had to travel long distances for treatment. A beneficiary of the government’s 373 Program, with the support of Moldindconbank, iVedere continues to grow, investing in modern equipment and offering personalized solutions for each patient.
How the history of the iVedere clinic began
On October 22, 2022, the clinic opened its doors to patients from Ungheni and the surrounding areas. The decision to open here came from wanting to bring complex medical services, including surgery, to the western part of the country. We have succeeded in offering modern treatment methods locally, which people needed. Until then, patients had to travel to Chisinau to receive specific treatments. It is a family business, and my husband, Nicolae Bobescu, plays an essential role in its development, making his mark through his involvement and being a true generator of ideas.
How did you both become doctors and dedicate yourselves to a business?
I am an ophthalmologist and my husband is an ophthalmic surgeon. He is one of three retina specialists in the Republic of Moldova. After six years of university, we thought about leaving the country to continue our residency studies. We were already preparing for exams and admissions, and the idea of staying in the Republic of Moldova and both choosing ophthalmology came like a bolt from the blue. I then did my residency for four years at the Sfanta Treime Hospital in Chisinau. During those years, I also worked in hospitals in the district. There, I saw what it means to set up a surgical service and the gaps that can be filled if you have financial resources, modern machinery, and high-performance equipment that allow you to work with everything you need for diagnosis and treatment, delivering results to patients.
Do you also have international specializations?
Among our first specializations were those in Moscow, where we participated in practical courses in cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery. We then continued our training in Kiev, Barcelona, and Brasov, and the experience we gained had a significant impact on our professional development.
Why did you choose Moldindconbank?
We chose this bank based on recommendations from people we know and trust. The best advertising is word of mouth. Obviously, the bank’s image and reputation are of primary importance. That is why its successes and the relationship it promotes with its customers are at the forefront. Thanks to the professional and heartfelt involvement of the Moldindconbank team, we were able to obtain financing for the development of our business. In the process of interaction, things become clear and then you either rejoice or regret. Fortunately, for us, everything was perfect.
How did you find out about the 373 program?
We learned about the 373 program thanks to our collaboration with ODA since we opened our business, constantly following their page. We also have colleagues who collaborate with this organization, considering it a genuine project that offers real opportunities to develop your dream. Thanks to friends and acquaintances who collaborate with Moldindconbank and who know about the credit options available, we decided to apply for this program.
Tell us about the services that patients find at the iVedere clinic.
iVedere clinic patients benefit from a full range of medical and ophthalmological services, from consultations for newborns to complex eye surgeries.
Our services include: visual acuity testing, tonometry, biomicroscopy, ultrasonography, funduscopy, optical coherence tomography, computerized perimetry, intravitreal injections and retinal laser treatments, as well as minor to more complex surgical procedures: cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and vitreoretinal surgery. Our patients can also benefit from consultations and prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses, and we offer a wide range of optical products.
Over the years, you have enjoyed recognition and appreciation from patients and authorities. We know that patients also come from Chisinau, even though there are services and specialists there. How did you succeed?
Our motto is “Your eyes are our favorite color,” and each patient receives an entirely personalized approach, strictly focused on their specific issue. We try to make them feel comfortable and in good spirits during the treatment process, even if their problem is more severe. We try to offer them emotional support and, of course, professionalism in applying the latest treatment methods available in ophthalmology.
The doctor-patient relationship, in which we constantly invest, as well as communication between employees and patients, is the foundation of our work. This is the key to success, because every person who walks through our door comes with a problem that requires both medical treatment and emotional support.
We are delighted every time patients choose our clinic, whether they are from Ungheni, Chisinau, Cahul, or Briceni. The fact that distance does not prevent them from visiting us honors us and makes us feel responsible.
At the end of last year, we were awarded the title of “Medical Service Providers” and received the title of excellence, which we are proud of, and the Ungheni District Council recognized us as successful entrepreneurs of the city.
How do you plan to move forward?
There is always room for improvement, and we are not stopping here. We intend to equip the institution with state-of-the-art refractive surgery equipment, a technology that is still lacking in the Republic of Moldova. The investment is considerable, but we are determined to continue to access funding projects to make this goal a reality
What would you recommend to other entrepreneurs in the healthcare field for expansion and modernization?
Every dream requires emotional, financial, and social investment. Motivation can only be maintained through discipline and perseverance. Even when you feel like you are stagnating, you are actually taking small steps forward. If you constantly visualize your dream, you will succeed in achieving it. It is essential to have confidence in yourself and in the team that supports you, and your family remains the central pillar, providing security and energy to continue on your journey.
